New Squadron Minibus!!!
1406 (Spalding) Sqn are now the proud owners of a new minibus, thanks to a grant from the RAF Charitable Trust. The cadets raised over £10,000 themselves over a 12-18 month period, and the Trust grant of £10,400 means they have just taken delivery of the 17-seater vehicle.
Various fundraising tasks were undertaken over the past 12-18 months including car park marshalling, packing bags in supermarkets and helping other local charities along the way. The minibus will now be used to transport the cadets to a variety of activities including gliding, flying, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award challenges, camping, orienteering first aid training and more.
Cdt Cpl Heather Stacey said: “Having our own transport is a real bonus to the squadron and staff, it makes organising trips a lot easier, and allows us to proudly display and advertise who we are when we are out and about in the wider community.”
Wendy Davey, Squadron Civilian Committee chairperson said: “Having our own transportation enables the cadets to think and act as a group during their travel to events, as well as saving time, effort, complexity in travel coordination and fuel costs. The support we received from the RAF Charitable Trust was invaluable. The cadets and the adult staff of Spalding Squadron will be forever grateful to the team at the Trust who helped to make this happen, and especially Sqn Ldr Josh Fortune RAF who was a real Driving Force behind our application.”
