Historic Hot Shots!

Report by Cadet Cpl Heather Stacey (Squadron Press Pack)

A small piece of local History was made Saturday 24 November, as 1406 (Spalding) Squadron fired their first ever rounds in the National Cadet Indoor Air Rifle Competition.

Spalding Squadron does not have its own range, so cadets and staff made the short journey to Orton to use the indoor Air Rifle Range that Squadron and Wing Warrant Officer Chris Bone helped to install.

This is the first year the Squadron has competed in the event. Warrant Officer Chris Bone said, “Cadets used the Scorpion Air Rifle, which is a great introduction to target shooting. It also gives cadets a different shooting experience unlikely to be matched in any other competitions as Cadets are required to fire from the prone, kneeling and standing positions.”

“The Squadron is now eager to install its own indoor Air Rifle Range, and with help and advice from Headquarters Air Cadets, we will hopefully see progress being made in the New Year.”

Squadron 2 i/c Flying Officer Angela Bone said, “We knew the introduction to Air Rifle shooting would prove to be popular among the cadets, and competition among them has almost reached fever pitch now, to be the first on the Squadron to gain the many marksmanship awards available.”
